InfantSEE
FREE EYE EXAMS FOR BABIES UNDER ONE YEAR OF AGE. We participate in InfantSEEŠ, a public health program designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child's quality of life. This program is sponsored by the American Optometric Association in n partnership with The Vision Care Institute of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.
Pre-School Children
Don't worry if your child doesn't even know the alphabet. With today's diagnostic equipment and tests, we can test his/her eyes in other ways.
To increase your child's comfort during the exam we recommend early morning appointments, and you may want to make things familiar with them like showing an E Chart and explain how it's a puzzle, or let him/her play with a tiny flashlight "like the doctor will use." If you have binoculars or even a kaleidoscope, let your child look through them before the exam to get used to the feeling of looking into the eye instruments.
During the exam the doctor will test your child for vision problems such as nearsightedness, far-sightedness, crossed-eyes and lazy eyes. We'll also check color vision and overall eye health.
Please call us if you have any questions about your pre-schooler's eye health. We want to make your child's first visit to our office a very positive experience.
School Age Children
Once your child is in school, good vision will play a key role in his/her success. Your child will need good near vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision a well as focusing skills and eye-hand-body coordination.
Your child's first eye examination should be around age three. Schedule another before she/he starts school, around age 5. After that, your child should be checked every two years, unless you notice problems or your child is at risk for vision problems.
Your child's vision exam will start with the doctor examining her/his eyes for general health and visual acuity. We will check to see if the eyes are properly aligned, if the eye muscles are functioning properly, and if the eyes are working together.
Please remember that school vision screenings, while they can be helpful in identifying problems, do not take the place of a regular eye examination. To ensure the health of your child's eyes, and to ensure that he/she is seeing as clearly as possible, please schedule an appointment with our office.
